What is GenAI? (It's the genie, and it's out of the bottle.) 🧞‍♂️

📊 More than 80% of people surveyed for Microsoft's Work Trends Index said that using GenAI made them more creative, and they also enjoyed their work more.

‽ Hey, this is a new newsletter!

That's right! The Stellar Platforms Newsletter and Playful Productivity newsletter are both retired. The author, Caelan Huntress, is pivoting into GenAI. Give this new newsletter a read, and unsubscribe at the bottom if it's not for you. Or keep reading, if you like it.

Hello Reader,

When Jensen Huang took the stage last month at CES 2025, the world's largest consumer electronics expo, he called AI a "multi-trillion dollar opportunity."

He shared the 4 stages of AI development:

  1. Perception AI
  2. Generative AI ( ⬅️ we are here )
  3. Agentic AI
  4. Physical AI

This evolution shows how quickly technology can change how we work. From the time the first chatbot ELIZA was invented in 1966, to when AI could recommend a good Netflix show based on your viewing habits, was fifty years. Agentic AI may become widely used before the end of the decade.

💡 Learn to use GenAI in your work, or you risk becoming obsolete.

The world of work is changing fast. Keep up!

The printing press took centuries to reshape society. The internet took only decades. GenAI? It’s moving in quarters. This isn’t hype—it’s velocity.

Change how you work now, or watch the world work around you.

🤖 AI is this generation’s tractor.

When tractors automated plowing, farmers didn’t disappear—they became agronomists, mechanics, and supply-chain experts.

GenAI follows the same arc: repetitive cognitive tasks (like data entry, basic coding) will automate, but strategic, creative, and ethical roles will surge.

In the World Economic Forum's 2025 report on The Future of Jobs, they predicted 92 million jobs will be lost due to AI. Sounds terrible, right? Well, they also predict 170 million new jobs will be created, for a net gain of 78 million new jobs.

AI isn’t coming for all jobs, but it’s coming for some of the work in every job. If you can pivot and learn to use AI as a tool, you’ll thrive. If you don’t, you’re handing your career to those who can.

AI isn’t just automating tasks; it’s redefining careers. The future isn’t waiting—neither should you.

🔍 The future belongs to those who can adapt.

What will you do this week to improve your GenAI skills? Maybe you should try something new:

🛠️ Cool Tool: DeepSeek

The entire AI race was thrown upside-down when DeepSeek launched a superior LLM for a fraction of the cost.

Watching DeepSeek articulate its thinking makes me think we are much closer to AGI. When ChatGPT thinks, its a pause with a scrolling icon. Just a computer, doing computer stuff. When DeepSeek thinks, the UI shows its thinking process in smaller text. Feels like you are peeking into the mind of a sentient being.

The quality of copywriting in DeepSeek is blowing me away. I get 10x better results than what I'm getting from ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok.

(I typically use 3 AI models for my first few requests every day, so I can evaluate the strengths of each one, and choose which matches the work I'll be doing.)

This is despite my CustomGPTs having been trained on my voice, coached on my brand and style, and having read the PDF of my book. With only basic examples, DeepSeek is 10x better.

📰 Biggest AI News of the Week

  • DeepSeek-R1 Model: DeepSeek introduced the R1 model, positioning itself as a competitor to established players like OpenAI, at a fraction of the cost (in dollars and compute).
  • OpenAI Operator: A general-purpose AI agent can control a web browser to perform tasks, like booking travel accommodations, or managing online forms autonomously.
  • Stargate Project: OpenAI, in collaboration with Oracle and Softbank, announced a $500 Billion investment in amplifying AI infrastructure. Elon Musk says they don't have the money.

⚙️ Prepare for the Future of Work 🧞‍♂️

I'm going to be sharing a newsletter like this every week. How did I do?
