[Citizenship Unlocked] I am the NEWEST Zealander!

🇳🇿 I am now a New Zealand citizen!

Hello Reader,

It all started 15 years ago, when my young family and I left the United States to seek better fortunes abroad.

First we went to Costa Rica for a few years, which had its pluses and its minuses. Ultimately, it wasn't a good fit for us.

Eight years ago we moved to New Zealand, and this week, we were awarded citizenship in our new home country.

💡 Why .co.nz ?

When I pivoted my business from a digital marketing agency that helps experts and entrepreneurs set up smart marketing systems, I was weary from accommodating so many different time zones and currencies.

Every time I listed a webinar, I had to do all sorts of math (which changed every time the archaic Daylight Savings Time struck again) and set up multiple payment gateways for people to buy things in their home currency.

With my new business, GenAI Training Limited, I'm focusing on New Zealand workforce development. That's why my website is https://genaitraining.co.nz/

I will probably expand in the future, but for now, I'm listing events in New Zealand time zone, and I'll be charging New Zealand dollars to attend my workshops.

I hope that this focus will help me to build a business based on what people want, right now.

🔍 Should You Be Transparent about Using GenAI In Creative Works?

This newsletter was written entirely by hand. I didn't use GenAI to help me with any piece of it. It's Level 1, but I don't like sharing that with you. Here's why:

🛠️ AI Transparency Framework

Imagine two scenarios:

1. You read this post, and see that I tagged it as Level 1 (Fully Human produced).

2. You read this post, and see that I tagged it as Level 4 (AI-driven content, with human oversight).

How would you feel, in either of those scenarios? This is an extra meta-layer that creates friction between creator and audience. I don't think it's workable.

In reviewing the mechanics of the AI Transparency Framework it's...fine.

But it interrupts engagement, to remind you (continually) that any one of these posts is an arcane hybrid mix of robots and humanity.

It devolves storytelling into a series of unfortunate disclaimers.

In the circus, you tell white lies to tell a good story. Some tricks give you an unfair advantage over an audience. Issuing constant levels of disclaimers is not creative or generous. It betrays the purpose of meeting with an audience.

We attend, after all, to be dazzled.

I don't like adding disclaimers to content, even when it's fully human, because it interrupts the experience.

But I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Reply if you have something to say, or if you want the opportunity to articulate your thoughts. Or, you can just vote here:

"The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn." — Alvin Toffler Hello Reader, We are living through a revolution of intelligence, from human to artificial. The illiterate of the 21st century will be those humans stuck in the 20th century's methods of working. Those of us preparing for the future of work are unlearning, and relearning, how we work, through our relationship with AI. Professionals who take the...

Hello Reader, Robots can now out-human humans. In a recent study, more than 1000 people at UC San Diego took part in a classic Turing test with four GenAI models. GPT-4.5 was selected as the real human 73% of the time, according to this preprint study released last week. This marks a significant milestone in AI development. The Turing Test was proposed in 1950 by Alan Turing as a method to determine if a machine could exhibit behaviour as intelligent as a human. His paper 'Computing Machinery...
